How to fold a fringed garment

By

A poncho, shawl or even a tablecloth may have fringe that makes it difficult to fold neatly for storage. Linda Koopersmith, the Beverly Hills Organizer, shows you a simple technique for neat folding.

How to fold a fringed garment
  • With a triangular-shaped piece of clothing, lay it flat and line up the top and the bottom sides. This way it is straight.
  • Next fold any fringe under the garment so nothing is protruding out the sides. Hold the garment from the sides and flip it over, keeping the fringe underneath.
  • Now fold the sides in one side at a time, tucking the fringe in.
  • Make another fold in to the edge of the neckline and repeat for the opposite side.
  • Lastly, take the top of the garment and fold it in half.

I’m Linda Koopersmith, the Beverly Hills Organizer, for howdini.com. One of the most difficult things to fold are unusually shaped items and items with fringe – and this garment has both. It’s triangular-shaped, and has a lot of fringe.

So the first thing that we’re going to want to do, is line up the top and the bottom, so its nice and perfectly straight, like so. The next thing that we want to do with anything with fringe is to fold it in. We don’t want anything scooting out from the sides. So I’m going to take it from the side here, and I’m going to flip it under, and kind of turn it over as I’m doing that flip.

The next thing I want to do, is I want to fold the sides in, like so. But I’m going to do one fold first on either side, tucking that fringe in, and then folding it over to the edge of the neckline, like so. And then we’re ready to take the top of the sweater and fold it up, giving you a perfectly folded poncho.

I’m Linda Koopersmith for howdini.com.
