How to make a video diary or vlog of your vacation

Digital filmmaker and YouTube sensation Joe Penna’s tips for shooting vacation memories:

  • Use a pocket camera with a huge LCD screen that automatically changes orientation to let you record and playback videos from every direction.
  • Always capture and record in HD mp4, which is a great format for viewing on your computer and sharing online.
  • Carry your camera everywhere. Some of the best parts of your vacation happen spontaneously so always be prepared.
  • Take both videos and still pictures. Choosing a camera that allows you to take stills while you record is ideal.
  • Upload to your favorite social networking sites, like YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, and flickr.
Transcript JOE PENNA: Hey, I'm Joe. I'm here to talk to you about how to make a vlog of your vacation.
In order to capture--{ringing doorbell}
It's here!
Okay, like I was saying, in order to capture the best moments on your vacation, you're gonna-- {doorbell rings}
Yes! Oh!
{sighs}
{doorbell rings}
Yes! Yes!
I've been waiting so long for this little guy!
A pocket camera like this is perfect for traveling, and I'm about to go on a trip to Bali.
It also has a huge LCD screen, and it automatically changes orientation to let you record and playback videos horizontally, vertically, even upside down!
I'm finally ready to go!
Packing peanuts...packing peanuts...
 {jet engine noise}
Even though I'm usually busy making my videos,
I sometimes like to travel and experience new things.
Sometimes, something unexpected happens, so I always have my camera around so I get to capture it.
"Treat your tired feet."
Whoo-hoo!
Oh, my God!
They really, really--
I can capture HD video in mp4, which is a great format for viewing it on our computer and sharing it online.
Plus, with just a few taps of my fingers, I can capture high-res photos.
There's even a function that lets me take pictures while I'm recording video, so I'm sure to get what I need.

WOMAN: And we're a little bit lost, maybe. Lembongan?

RESIDENT: Yes.

JOE PENNA: Lembongan? All right.

WOMAN: Thank you!

MAN: Enjoy your trip--enjoy your trip.

JOE PENNA: Thank you.
Once I'm home, I can upload to my favorite social networking sites, like YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, and flickr.
Thanks for watching--make sure you check out all my videos on sony.com/howdini.
