Bob Vila has spent his career helping people upgrade their homes and improve their lives. He started out with his own design and remodeling business and found himself as the first hands-on host of This Old House on PBS. From there his name became synonymous with home DIY. Through TV Bob taught millions of people the role good design, and often sweat equity, play in creating the surroundings you love as host of Bob Vila’s Home Again, Bob Vila, and, showcasing his passion for restoration, Restore America with Bob Vila. On the silly side, Bob often played himself on Tim Allen's Home Improvement sitcom. In addition to teaching through TV/Video, Bob is the author of 12 books
including Bob Vila's Complete Guide to Remodeling Your Home.
Bob is breaking new ground on the Web with a new series called Building Green –introducing green building technologies and products with all the information you need to make the best choices – both for you and for the planet, combining the best of the old with the new.
Bob makes his home in his native Florida, summers in Massachusetts, and works with the team at BobVila.com in New York City.
In the last five years, Bob has channeled some of his passion into an historic renovation helping with the restoration of Ernest Hemingway’s home and collections at Finca Vigía near Havana, Cuba. Hemingway lived there from 1939 until his death in 1961 and he left it to the Cuban people to be run as a museum. This project has allowed Bob to visit his parents' homeland several times.
