How to make easy Halloween cookies Ghoulish Cookies

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 egg

Neon green food color

1 container (12 oz) Betty Crocker® Whipped fluffy white frosting

Betty Crocker® black or white decorating gel

Miniature marshmallows

Miniature candy-coated chocolate baking bits
  1. Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, butter and egg until soft dough forms. On ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake 11 to 14 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.
  3. Stir enough food color into frosting until desired green color. Frost cooled cookies. Use black or white decorating gel to make "ghoulish" faces on cookies. Use marshmallows and baking bits to decorate.
Makes 2 dozen cookies

Candy Corn Cookies

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix

1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

1 egg

Orange paste food color

2 oz semisweet chocolate, melted, cooled
  1. Line 8x4-inch loaf pan with waxed paper, extending paper over sides of pan. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, butter and egg until soft dough forms.
  2. On work surface, place 3/4 cup dough. Knead desired amount of food color into dough until color is uniform. Press dough evenly in bottom of pan.
  3. Divide remaining dough in half. On work surface, knead chocolate into one half remaining dough until color is uniform. Press over orange dough in pan, pressing gently to edge of pan. Gently press remaining plain dough into pan on top of chocolate dough. Refrigerate 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until firm.
  4. Heat oven to 375°F. Remove dough from pan. Cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Cut each slice into 5 wedges. On ungreased cookie sheet, place wedges 1 inch apart.
  5. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are set and edges are very light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely. Store in tightly covered container.
Makes About 9 1/2 dozen cookies

Does Halloween scare you for reasons beyond ghosts and goblins? Are you terrified by having to come up with fun Halloween treats everybody's going to love? Hi, I'm Cricket Azima.

 

There's really no need to be afraid of hosting a Halloween party because I've got some great cookie recipes that the kids are going to scream for. First we're going to make ghoulish cookies. Preheat the oven to 375. And simply start with a sugar cookie mix. Combine the cookie mix with egg, softened better or margarine, and stir until a dough forms.

 

Once the dough is made, scoop out a teaspoonful at a time onto a cookie sheet about two inches apart. Bake the cookies for 11 to 14 minutes. I took the cookies out of the oven and let them cool before I started frosting them. I made the green frosting by simply taking some white frosting and adding some green food coloring.

 

After I frosted all the cookies with one layer over, you can start to decorate the cookies with mini marshmallows, candy corns, and other small candies. You could make Frankenstein. You can create a jack-o'-lantern, you could make tombstones, spiders, bats. The spooky ideas are really endless.

 

Now let's try a wickedly good unfrosted cookie that looks just like a candy corn. Star with the sugar cookie mix, add eggs and softened butter or margarine. Once the dough is made, you're going to divide it into thirds.

 

For the first third of the dough add orange food coloring and stir until uniform. Press this dough into the bottom of an eight by four loaf pan that's lined with wax paper. I'm going to take the second third of dough and add melted semi-sweet chocolate. I'll combine these ingredients to make a delicious chocolate dough. Next I'm going to carefully and gently press the chocolate dough into the pan on top of the orange dough.

 

The last third of the dough you're going to leave plain and simply press on top of the other two layers. Again, you want to make sure that you're really careful to keep all the other layers in tact. Put the pan in the refrigerator for two hours. Cooling it is going to make it easier to cut later.

 

After the dough is chilled, lift the dough out of the pan and put it on your cutting board. You're going to preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Now it's time to cut the cookies to look like the candy corn. Start by cutting a quarter inch slice and lay it on its side. Then start at one corner of the dough and using a zigzag motion to form the candy corn shape.

 

Once you've cut all of the candy corn cookies, you're going to put them onto a baking sheet and cook for seven to nine minutes or until the edges just start to turn brown. And there you had your candy corn cookies that every little ghost and goblin will adore. From ghoulish, ghostly cookies to cookies that look like candy corn, there's definitely no trick when it comes to Halloween baking. It's all treat.
