How to correct damage to your skin
- Your skin looks older because of microscopic inflammation, caused by stress, sun, pollution and poor diet, among other factors.
- Dr. Perricone recommends an anti-inflammatory diet, as outlined in his book, Ageless Face, Ageless Mind. It requires you to eat a lot of fish, plus a lot of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, he recommends topical treatments and supplements containing anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. He believes if you follow his directions, you can correct damage to your skin.
- Sun exposure is a major culprit, and it's not okay to use a sunblock and then stay out in the sun all day. You may not get red or look sunburned, but you are still causing damage to your skin. You need sunblock for both UVA and UVB rays.
- He also recommends alpha lipoic acid, which is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.
- If a skin cream or other topical product says it has collagen in it, be skeptical. Collagen's molecules are too big to penetrate the skin's surface.
