How To Choose Organic Skin And Beauty Products

You may be unpleasantly surprised to learn that there is no government certification for organic ingredients in skin and beauty products. Unlike food, there is not a label that guarantees that the contents of a product are organic. So how can you tell whether you’re choosing organic or not?

  • Read the labels, not just the name of the product. Some products will include the word ‘organic’ in their name, but on closer inspection of the ingredients you won’t find any organic ingredients at all.
  • Check the label to see whether the ingredients include petroleum, synthetic preservatives or artificial colors. Also watch out for parabens and phthaltes.
  • You can also consult the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep website. You can enter the name of the products you use and see whether they contain ingredients you want to avoid.
