How to do a Taylor Swift inspired messy updo

Here's what you'll need to create the Taylor Swift-inspired messy updo:
    • Hair clips to section off hair
    • Bobby pins
    • Ponytail holder
    • Comb
    • Hairspray
    Step-by-step:
    • Section your hair beginning with separating the front sections from the back (from behind the ear to the crown) and clip out of the way.
    • Create a low, loose ponytail with the back section of hair, sweep to one side and secure with bobby pins.
    • To create the base of the messy side-swept bun, take small sections of hair from the ponytail, place a bobby pin mid-length on the section and secure to the roots.  The more sections you pin, the more texture the look will have.
    • Leave a few sections of hair unpinned in the back. These pieces will be used later to cover bobby pins and tweak any holes or gaps in the look.
    • Now, it's time to start incorporating the front sections with the back.  The concept is to bring sections from the front to the back, alternating left and right sections, overlapping and underlapping to create a basket weave effect.  Again, the smaller the sections of hair, the more texture.  Be creative!
    • As you go along, look at the updo-in-progress to see if there are any holes, gaps or sections that don't look quite right.  This is the time to use the loose sections from the back.  Overlap, loop, and curve hair sections, as needed to tweak the look.
    • Comb the final sections of hair that you bring from the front to the back to ensure that they are smooth from the root.
    • Once you have all of the hair incorporated into the messy, side-swept bun and are happy with the texture and movement of the look, comb the top section of the hair from the roots to polish the look.
    • Spray with hairspray to hold and add extra shine.
