How to take great photos of kids

Getting the best shots of your kids takes as much negotiating skill as photography skill sometimes. Here’s good advice on how to do it from professional photographer Nigel Barker.
    • A DSLR camera is ideal for taking quality pictures of kids.
    • Let your kids have fun and move around.
    • To get a certain style of pose from your subject, try negotiating with them. For example, tell them that if they do this shot for you, that you’ll let them take some fun shots later.
    • Allow your kids to move around and use the live view display so you can snap off the shots you want and not miss the action.
    • Use the in-camera stabilization to steady your shots. Cupping your hands around the camera and holding your arms firm against your torso can also help avoid blurriness.
    • Snap shots from a number of different angels.
    • Placing objects in the foreground and adjusting blurriness can also make a picture more interesting.
