Tracy Metro
Entertaining Guru & TV Personality
- Tracy Metro received her honorary PhD in "Themeology" through years of party throwing. Metro’s culinary experience took a decidedly different route than many of the chefs she admires today. Unlike those who trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Le Cordon Bleu or L’Ecole Culinaire, Tracy cut her teeth at the very 70s kitsch, strip mall cooking school-cum-retail store, “What’s Cooking!” in Rockville, Maryland.
Tracy learned to swim in the deep end as a kid cook. Her mother says, “It’s all been fire extinguishers and Band-Aids from there.” Through trial and error, Tracy became fearless in the kitchen and learned to fake it unless you bake it. After all, the worst thing that can happen is you’ll need to order a pizza (which has never happened to Tracy… at least not yet).
Metro says the primary reason she cooks is to use her creativity in plating meals, to utilize outrageous props for her tablescapes and to justify throwing unforgettable theme parties. The food is a means to the end… FUN! Some recent themetastic evenings include: an appetizer party based on food columnist Mark Bittman’s article in the New York Times, “101 Simple Appetizers In 20 Minutes or Less” (unbelievably, there were 101 appetizers present in ONE house!) and a “make-your-own panini” night comprised of an assembly line of wonderful Italian and French delicacies with a panini press at the end, topped off with decorate-your-own cookies and cupcakes. Whatever the theme, Tracy gets her guests actively involved in the fun, which turns a mere party into an outright never-to-be-forgotten, talked-about-on-Monday-morning-at-the-office, PAR-TAY!
Currently, she’s in the midst of writing her first book, Themeology: The Study of Throwing Theme(tastic) Parties. - See videos by Tracy Metro | View Tracy Metro’s website
