I spent a lot of my career writing, reporting or producing news, and what I always loved about it was the opportunity to surprise and either delight or horrify people with new information. The delight/horrify continuum is a key component to what makes a news story news, or just filler.
So I have to ponder where on the delight/horrify continuum this story falls: The people who brought us frozen faces–Allergan, the makers of Botox–are back with a new drug that promises to make your eyelashes grow longer.
Yes, it’s true. For the low, low price of about 130 dollars a month, you too can have longer, fuller eyelashes. The drug happens to be for glaucoma treatment, but apparently, in a much reduced dosage, it has the ability to increase (dramatically) the length, darkness, and thickness of lashes.
Now, the first thing I’m thinking is, how do I know it won’t increase other facial hair, and don’t I already spend enough time removing that?
Like, how do I know eyelashes won’t be growing out of the tip of my nose, or chin? They say the only side effects are red, itchy eyes and maybe darkened eyelid skin, but how many times have we learned, well after a product reaches the marketplace, that it has some weird side effect we weren’t warned about?
I am either a skeptic or old-fashioned, or both, I guess, but I have to say mascara works just fine for me. And for a more over the top, Bugs-Bunny-disguised-as-a-woman look, there are always false eyelashes.
It turns out that false eyelashes are easy to put on, once you know a few basic tricks. And at Howdini, we know the tricks. Or at least, our good friend and guru Katrina Szish does. In one of our favorite videos, Katrina shows How to Apply False Eyelashes.
Have a look, and you’ll see what I mean.
